Heinz Lowen

Early Life and Career

Heinz Lowen was a Dutch footballer and coach known for his time at FC Köln, becoming the first foreign player to join the German club. He was a popular figure among West German fans, earning the nickname "Der schöne Heinz" (Handsome Heinz).

Return to the Netherlands

Following Köln's defeat in the 1954 German Cup Final, Lowen returned to the Netherlands where he played for Fortuna '54, DUS, and other clubs. He achieved success with DUS, winning the Dutch championship in the 1957/58 season.

International Career

Lowen represented the Netherlands national team from 1941 to 1960, earning 31 caps.

Coaching Career

After retiring as a player, Lowen embarked on a coaching career, managing several Dutch and Belgian teams. From 1969 to 1971, he led Club Brugge to success.

Film Appearance

In addition to his football career, Lowen also ventured into acting, playing the role of Jürgen Busse in the 1954 film "Das ideale Brautpaar" ("The Ideal Couple").
