Early Life and Choral BeginningsFranz Benda, born in 1709 in the Kingdom of Bohemia, embarked upon his musical journey as a chorister. He honed his vocal skills in Prague, Dresden, and Warsaw before pursuing his true passion: the violin.
Musical Apprenticeship in Vienna
Under the tutelage of renowned composer Karl Heinrich Graun, Benda's violin technique blossomed in Vienna. His virtuoso performances and exceptional talent laid the foundation for his future success.
Royal Service in Prussia
In 1733, Benda joined the courtly chapel of King Frederick the Great in Potsdam, Prussia. He served with distinction until his passing, rising through the ranks to become first violinist in 1740 and lead the court orchestra in 1771.
Innovative Composer
