Early Life and Education:František Kobliha was born in the Czech Republic in 1877. In 1901, he embarked on his artistic journey by enrolling in the Higher School of Applied Arts (UMPRUM) in Prague. Here, he studied painting under the guidance of František Ženíšek. Despite his formal training in painting, it was in graphics that Kobliha truly found his calling.
Artistic Influences and Exhibitions:
Kobliha was heavily influenced by the late symbolism movement, particularly the works of Odilon Redon, Karel Hlaváček, and the British Pre-Raphaelites. He first exhibited his work in Prague in 1901 and held a solo exhibition in Brno in 1910. His artistic career gained momentum in 1923 when he joined the Czech Graphic Artists' Association Hollar.
Contributions to Graphic Art:
Kobliha became a leading figure in the Czech graphic art scene. In 1932, he assumed the role of chairman of the Hollar Association. He authored several books on graphic techniques, sharing his extensive knowledge with aspiring artists. As a graphic artist, he created numerous ex-libris (bookplates), lithographs, and woodcuts.
