Early Life and Education
Born in France to a family of musicians, Italian guitarist Carlo Marchione studied at the Milan Conservatory. He then pursued advanced studies with Ruggero Chiesa, Alirio Diaz, and Alexander Lagoya.
Career
Alongside performing classical repertoire, Marchione is known for his extensive work with new music. Notable among these are the world premieres of Alexander Tansman's Concertino for Guitar and Orchestra and Franco Donatoni's Marcia-II.
Recordings
Marchione's major recordings include the complete guitar works of Niccolò Paganini (1988), the Rossiniiana by Mario Giuliani (1991), and the complete guitar compositions of Heitor Villa-Lobos (1995). He also recorded Johann Sebastian Bach's complete lute repertoire on the guitar, and, with singer Lucia Rizzi, all of Louis Spohr's songs for voice and guitar.
Teaching
Marchione has taught at the conservatories of Turin and Trieste, as well as in Beijing. Among his notable students is Lorenzo Micheli.
