Biography of Nathan Jonas Jordison

Nathan Jonas Jordison, better known as Joey Jordison, is an American drummer and guitarist, best known as a member of the nu-metal band Slipknot. He was born on April 26, 1975, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Early Life and Musical Journey

During his school years, Jordison attended a jazz music school, where he honed his drumming skills. He shared an apartment with his cousin, Steve Alan White, which greatly contributed to improving his drumming technique and made him one of the best drummers in the world. In addition to drums, Joey also played the guitar from a young age, learning by copying bands like Rolling Stones without taking any formal lessons.

Joey's love for metal music began in 1981 after attending an Ozzy Osbourne concert. He initially played guitar in school bands but received a drum set as a gift from his parents in 1982. This marked the beginning of his drumming career.

Early Career and Slipknot

Jordison worked at a music store called "Music Land" and a gas station in his hometown. He played in several heavy metal bands in the Des Moines area, including Anal Blast and Modifidious. Modifidious, a speed-thrash metal band, was formed with his neighbor named Tim. They wrote 15 songs in a fast-paced style.

Joey's main project became Slipknot when he joined the band in May 1995. He participated in the recording of their debut album "Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat." in 1996, which sold only 1000 copies. Slipknot gained significant recognition with their second album, "Iowa," released in 2001. It debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts and reached the top spot in the UK and Canada. The band went on to achieve further success with their album "Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses" in 2004.

Murderdolls and Side Projects

In 2002, Jordison, along with Joseph Poole and Tripp Eisen, formed his second successful band, Murderdolls. The glam/punk group gained popularity, especially in the UK and China, before temporarily ceasing their activities so that Jordison could return to Slipknot.

Joey has also collaborated with other bands and artists throughout his career. He substituted for Lars Ulrich of Metallica during their 2004 tour, played drums for Ministry during their "Rio Grande Blood" album tour, and joined American Head Charge. He even had a brief stint as a drummer for Korn in 2007.

Mask and Image

Each member of Slipknot wears a unique mask that reflects their character or life experience. Joey's Japanese kabuki mask symbolizes a memory from his childhood when his mother scared him by wearing a similar mask.
