Early Life and Education
Frédérique Espagnac, a French politician, was born and raised in France. She pursued her higher education at École des hautes études commerciales (HEC) and earned an MBA from the University of Oxford.
Career in Politics
Espagnac embarked on her political journey by working as an advisor to the European Commission and UNESCO. She then held the positions of press secretary for the President of the National Assembly and François Hollande. She also served as the National Secretary of the Socialist Party.
Electoral Successes
In 2004, Espagnac was elected to the Aquitaine Regional Council. From 2008 to 2015, she served as a member of the Pau Municipal Council. In 2011, she was elected as a Senator for the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department.
Leadership Aspirations
In 2014, Espagnac joined Luc Carvounas, Gaëtan Gorce, and Didier Guillaume in the race for the presidency of the Socialist faction in the Senate, but she was unsuccessful.
Recent Appointments
In 2015, Espagnac became a member of the New Aquitaine Regional Council. In 2017, she held the position of press secretary for the Socialist Party and later served as the presidential campaign manager for Benoît Hamon.
Temporary Leadership of the Socialist Party
Following the resignation of Jean-Christophe Cambadélis, the National Council of the Socialist Party voted to establish a temporary collective leadership of 16 members, including Frédérique Espagnac. This interim leadership took over on July 8, 2017.
