Early Life and Education
Elisabeth Fritz, a German and American economist, was born in the late 19th century. In 1919, she received her doctorate from the University of Freiburg in Germany.
Academic Career in Germany
From 1919 to 1933, Fritz held various academic positions in Germany. She served as a professor at the Berlin School of Economics and also taught at the Berlin Pedagogical Institute.
Emigration to the United States
In 1933, Fritz emigrated to the United States due to political unrest in Germany. She settled in New York City and began working at the New School for Social Research.
Distinguished Career at the New School
At the New School, Fritz made significant contributions to the field of economics. She was appointed the Dean of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences in 1939, becoming the first female dean in the United States. She held this position until 1954.
Later Years and Legacy
After retiring from the New School, Fritz continued to be active in economic research and writing. She left a lasting mark on the discipline, particularly in the areas of economic policy and social justice.
