Frederica Wilhelmina was born on September 30, 1796, as the daughter of Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia and Princess Friederike of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. She had two nicknames: "Filtzis" and "Filtsi."

Marriage to Duke Leopold IV of Anhalt-Dessau

On May 17, 1816, Frederica Wilhelmina became engaged to Duke Leopold IV of Anhalt-Dessau, a match arranged by the Prussian court. On April 18, 1818, they were married, strengthening Prussia's influence over Anhalt-Dessau.
