Beginning in 1823, Ammon practiced in Dresden. In 1829, he was appointed professor at the Dresden Medical-Surgical Academy and director of its polyclinic. He also established a private clinic for eye and surgical patients.
In 1837, Ammon was appointed royal physician to the king. He published two journals: "Zeitschrift für Ophthalmologie" and "Monatsschrift für Medizin, Augenheilkunde und Chirurgie."
Contributions
Ammon made significant contributions to ophthalmology through his writings. His atlas of eye diseases was considered the most comprehensive illustrated guide to ophthalmoscopy at the time. His publications included articles in his journals as well as independently published works.
