Early Life and Education
Paul Anton was a German conductor and composer born in Munich in the 19th century. He received his musical training in Munich, studying piano under Bernhard Stavenhagen, and in Frankfurt am Main under James Kwast.
Teaching Career
After completing his education, Anton began his career as a piano teacher. He held positions in Möchengladbach and Detmold, eventually becoming the director of the music school in Detmold. However, the school's closure in 1918 due to the devastation caused by war and revolution forced Anton to leave his post.
Conducting Career
In 1919, Anton was appointed Generalmusikdirektor of Osnabrück. He held this position until 1922, when he moved to Bonn to lead the Bonn Municipal Orchestra as its Generalmusikdirektor. During his tenure in Bonn, which lasted until 1930, he became a prominent figure in the city's musical life.
Compositions
In addition to his conducting career, Anton was also a composer. He wrote a number of instrumental works, including a violin concerto (Op. 21, 1928), an oboe concerto, and a cello concerto.
Literary Works
Anton had a literary side as well. He penned the lyrics and music for the anthem of the Mönchengladbacher FC 94 football club, a team that he supported. The anthem was composed in 1909 to celebrate the club's victory in the first West German regional championship.
