Friedrich von Wurmb
Friedrich von Wurmb was a German botanist born into the noble Wurmb family in Thuringia. He established his residence in Batavia (present-day Jakarta) on the Indonesian island of Java, and his former home still stands today.

Von Wurmb played a crucial role in the founding of the Netherlands Society of Arts and Sciences. His extensive collections of artifacts and specimens became the foundation of Indonesia's National Museum and National Library. His contributions to science were recognized by Friedrich Schiller, who dedicated his story "Eine groβmüttige Handlung" to him.
Botanical Legacy
Von Wurmb's passion for botany extended beyond his residency in Batavia. He established a garden in Meester Cornelis (present-day Jatinegara) where he conducted scientific observations. In honor of his botanical contributions, the genus Wurmbea Thunb., belonging to the Colchicaceae family, was named after him.
