Death of Fu Suqing, Alleged Oldest Woman on Earth
Fu Suqing, the alleged oldest person in the world, passed away at the age of 119 years and 50 days. She died on Saturday morning at her home in Chengdu, Sichuan, China.
Verified Records
Fu's age was verified by the Carrying the Flag World Records organization in 2013 and 2016. However, the Guinness World Records recognizes Susannah Mushatt Jones as the oldest fully verified woman in history. Jones, an African American woman born in 1899, lived to the age of 117.
Life and Legacy
Fu Suqing was born in Jianyang and moved to Shuangliu with her husband 40 years ago. She lived a humble life, often wearing a blue headscarf and plain clothing. Her favorite foods included cornmeal and pork.
Health and Death
Fu's health began to decline in recent years. She lost a significant amount of weight and slept for most of the day. "She used to love extra portions of fried pork, but she ate less and sometimes only had soup," said Fu's daughter Xu Shuhua.
On Saturday morning, Fu refused breakfast, citing a lack of appetite. Her children left to eat without her. When they returned, they found her lying on her bed with her eyes open and not breathing. She died suddenly without uttering a word.
Family Memories
Fu Suqing is survived by four generations of her family. "They came home from nearby districts of Chengdu," said Fu's great-granddaughter, Lang Ting. Ting recalls that her great-grandmother's health had been poor since the beginning of 2016. "She slept most of the time and ate less than half a serving of fried pork," Ting added. "But just a few days ago, she seemed to be getting better because she started eating pork again."
