Biography of Gabriel Peter

Gabriel Peter, an English rock and pop singer, musician, and songwriter, began his musical career as a drummer in various rock and soul bands. In 1966, he and his classmates founded the band GARDEN WALL, which later became Genesis. The group released a series of albums including "From Genesis to Revelation" (1969), "Trespass" (1970), "Nursery Cryme" (1971), "Foxtrot" (1972), "Genesis Live" (1973), "Selling England by the Pound" (1973), and "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" (1974).

In 1975, Peter embarked on a solo career. His first four solo albums were all titled "Peter Gabriel." His debut album, featuring the hit single "Solsbury Hill," achieved great success in the United Kingdom. The second album experimented with music and also captivated the English audience. However, his early albums did not receive much attention overseas. This changed with his third solo album in 1980, which reached the top 30 in the United States. The hit "Games Without Frontiers" from this album reached the Top 5 in the UK and reached 11th place on the American charts.

Around the same time, Peter founded the association WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance), which aimed to promote traditional and contemporary music. His fourth album, released in 1982, achieved gold status, and the song "Shock the Monkey" earned him a Grammy nomination. In the same year, Peter embarked on a tour of North America. In 1984, he composed the music for Alan Parker's film "Birdy," and in 1985, he released the album "So," which had a more pop-oriented sound and achieved tremendous commercial success. It sold over 3 million copies in the United States alone, reached platinum status, topped the British charts, and reached the second position on the American charts. The album won a Grammy Award for "Best Album of the Year." The hit single "Sledgehammer" from this album was nominated for multiple Grammy Awards and was acclaimed as the best by Rolling Stone magazine. It received 9 MTV awards, a first in history.

In 1989, Gabriel returned to composing music for films, and his soundtrack album "Passion" for the film "The Last Temptation of Christ" won a Grammy Award. This album was released under the label "Real World Records," a recording studio created by Peter Gabriel and WOMAD. A year later, Gabriel released the compilation album "Shaking the Tree - Sixteen Golden Greats." His next album, "Us" (1992), achieved platinum status and entered the Top 10. The music video for the single "Steam" won two MTV awards in 1992 and a Grammy Award in 1993. In 1994, Gabriel embarked on a worldwide tour, which resulted in the double live album "Secret World Live."

Throughout his long musical career, Gabriel has dedicated significant attention to supporting musicians from around the world and fostering creative exchanges in his studio. Additionally, he actively supports numerous charitable organizations. Gabriel Peter has been both an eccentric rock singer and a commercially successful pop artist, as well as a public figure, but he has always remained a significant figure in the music world.
