Biography of Gagik Manukyan
Gagik Gevorgovich Manukyan (Armenian: Գագիկ Գևորգի Մանուկյան; born June 4, 1953, Gyumri) is a former Member of Parliament of Armenia. He is also a pedagogue and economist.
Education and Early Career
From 1970 to 1975, Manukyan studied at the Leninakan State Pedagogical Institute named after M. Nalbandyan. He then attended the Moscow State Institute of National Economy named after G. Plekhanov from 1987 to 1992. During his studies, he worked as a worker at the Leninakan Neck Factory from 1972 to 1975 and as a senior pioneer leader at School No. 14 from 1976 to 1977.
From 1977 to 1979, Manukyan taught at a construction technical school, and from 1979 to 1985, he served as a secretary at the pedagogical college of the Komsomol committee. In 1985, he became an instructor at the organization department of the Communist Party of Armenia (CPA) in the Leninakan district. From 1989 to 1991, he worked as an instructor at the city committee of the CPA. In 1991, he was elected as a member of the city council of Leninakan.
Career and Political Involvement
From 1992 to 1996, Manukyan served as the head of the trade department at a textile combine. He then became the head of the Gyumri community from 1996 to 1999. Since 1995, he has been the secretary of the Gyumri city committee of the CPA.
In 1999, Manukyan was elected as a Member of Parliament and served in that position until 2003. He was a member of the Permanent Commission on Foreign Relations and also a member of the CPA.
