Biography of Gagik Shahbazyan

Gagik Mkrtychevich Shahbazyan was born on July 27, 1955, in Yerevan, Armenia. He is an Armenian politician, businessman, and diplomat. Shahbazyan holds a degree in Agricultural Mechanization from the Armenian Agricultural Institute, which he completed between 1972 and 1977.

After graduating, Shahbazyan worked at the Armenian Agricultural Mechanization Research Institute as a junior researcher from 1977 to 1980, and later as a senior researcher until 1984. In 1983, he completed his postgraduate studies at the same institute.

From 1985 to 1991, Shahbazyan worked in the agricultural sector of Armenia and held various positions, including Deputy Minister of Economy. In 1991, he became the Deputy Minister of Agriculture.

From 1991 to 1993, Shahbazyan served as the State Minister and Minister of Agriculture of Armenia. He continued his political career as the State Minister of Armenia from 1993 to 1995.

In 1995, Shahbazyan took on the role of Minister for Relations with the CIS, the European Union, and International Economic Relations. He later became the Minister-Head of the Government Staff of Armenia from 1996 to 1997.

Shahbazyan's diplomatic career began in 1997 when he was appointed as the Ambassador of Armenia to Russia, a position he held until 1999. In 1999, he returned to the position of Minister of Agriculture.

Since 2000, Shahbazyan has been serving as an advisor to the Prime Minister of Armenia. He is also a distinguished member of the Armenian Agricultural Academy, the Academy of Economics and Finance of Armenia, and the Russian Academy of Information.

In 1998, Shahbazyan was recognized as an Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.
