Veturius Gratus Sabinianus
Veturius Gratus Sabinianus was a Roman senator and politician of the early 3rd century.
Patrician and Military Career
Born into the Gens Vettii, Sabinianus was likely the grandson of Gaius Vettius Sabinianus Julius Hospes, consul suffectus in 175. He was probably a patrician. Sabinianus began his career in the military, serving as commander of the third squadron of Roman cavalry. He was then likely promoted to military tribune of the VII Claudia legion.
Political Life
Gratus served as an imperial candidate for quaestor and was later appointed praetor tutelarius, responsible for matters relating to guardianship. Following these positions, Sabinianus became curator of the Via Flaminia.
Consulship
He was elected consul with Marcus Flavius Vitellius Seleucus in 221. It is speculated that Sabinianus died shortly after his consulship.
Legacy
His son was Gaius Vettius Gratus Atticus Sabinianus, consul in 242. Another possible son is Vettius Gratus, consul in 250.
