Early Life and Career

Galya Novents (later renamed Galina) was born in Yerevan, Armenia. Growing up in a humble neighborhood, she harbored a lifelong aspiration to become an actress. After graduating high school, she ventured to Moscow seeking admission to the prestigious VGIK film institute. However, her attempt proved unsuccessful, leading her to return to Yerevan.

Her cinematic debut came in 1965's "Hello, It's Me!", where she played a minor role as a Kurdish woman. In 1958, she graduated from the acting department of the Yerevan State Institute of Fine Arts and Theater. Thereafter, she embarked on her stage career with the Kapan Theater, followed by stints with the renowned Gabriel Sundukyan State Academic Drama Theater, the Van Achemyan Theater in Leninakan, and the Grachya Kaaplyan Drama Theater in Yerevan. From 1983 onwards, she remained a mainstay at the Sundukyan Theater.

Cinematic Breakthrough

Novents gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Siranoush in the 1984 film "Tango of Our Childhood". Her performance earned her a special jury prize at the Venice Film Festival. Critics hailed her as one of Armenia's most talented and renowned actresses. Theater critic Levon Mutafyan lauded her as a phenomenal figure in Armenian cinema, stating that her primary focus was "the defense of the rights of suffering women - respect for the pain and suffering of women."

Later Career and Personal Life

In 1995, Novents relocated to Los Angeles to be near her grandchildren. However, she eventually returned to her homeland. In her later years, she performed at the Akop Paronyan Musical Comedy Theater in Yerevan. Her final stage appearance came in June 2012 in the play "The Curious Savage."
