Footballing Career
Crystal Palace (1988-1995)Southgate's professional journey commenced with Crystal Palace in 1988. He made his debut in the 1990/91 season and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a regular in the starting lineup. His versatility on the pitch allowed him to play both in midfield and defense, showcasing his tactical acumen.
Aston Villa (1995-2001)
In 1995, Southgate joined Aston Villa for a fee of £2.5 million. Under manager Brian Little, Southgate was converted to a center-back. He played a pivotal role in the team's League Cup triumph in 1996 and became captain in 1997. Southgate's consistent performances earned him a place in the England national team.
Middlesbrough (2001-2006)
Southgate signed for Middlesbrough in 2001 and, after the departure of Paul Ince, became captain for the third time in his career. Southgate made his England debut in 1995 against Portugal.
