The Fulbright Family: A Testament to Love and Resilience
Driven by a compassionate desire to reunite seven separated siblings, the Fulbright couple embarked on a journey that would forever transform their lives.
Uniting a Fragmented Family
In Derby, Kansas, Lisa and Gary Fulbright welcomed seven foster children, ages 4 to 12, into their home. The siblings, who had endured over a year apart in temporary care, were finally reunited under one roof.
Expanding Their Family
Already raising three other adopted children and supporting their 17-year-old biological son, the Fulbrights embraced the chaos and love that came with their extended family. With the addition of the seven siblings, their household now boasts an impressive ten children.
A Mission of Reunification
Lisa and Gary's initial foster care arrangement for three siblings sparked a determination to bring the entire family together. "We had the other siblings over for holidays so they could visit," Lisa told CNN. When the two eldest girls approached them, the Fulbrights couldn't say no.
Overcoming Adversity
The siblings had experienced a troubled past marked by domestic turmoil and instability. After their mother's parental rights were terminated, the children faced the prospect of separate adoptions. "We wanted to take all the kids," Lisa explained. "There are not a lot of families wanting to adopt seven."
Legal Perseverance
The Fulbrights' adoption process lasted nearly a year. Finally, two weeks prior, Lisa and Gary officially became the parents of the reunited siblings.
A Celebration of Unity
To commemorate this momentous occasion, the children donned red Kansas City Chiefs jerseys and posed with K.C. Wolf, the team's lovable wolf mascot. "We just knew we were supposed to be their parents," Lisa said. "They're just so loving and affectionate. They're always crawling up in your lap for a big hug."
Healing Childhood Wounds
The reunited siblings, ranging in age from 4 to 12, faced significant challenges before finding their home with the Fulbrights. "Their life was really chaotic," Lisa shared. "They had a really hard time."
Filling the Void
Determined to provide the children with all they had missed, Lisa and Gary took them on outings to the zoo, ice skating, and the movies. "We're trying to show them that there is actually good in life," Lisa stated.
A Foster Family Extraordinaire
With nearly a decade of fostering experience, the Fulbrights are accustomed to the lively chaos of a full house. Lisa, who routinely cared for up to ten children as a foster parent, is adept at managing the demands that overwhelm many mothers.
The Power of Faith
"We're pretty loud, but we love it," Lisa admitted. "It's our life, and it's what we love. We're doing the Lord's work by fostering and reunifying."
