Early Life and Education

Hasan Ahmedov was born in Aghudi, a village in the Sisian district. He received his primary education at a Russian school. His passion for geology led him to the Geology and Exploration Faculty of the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute (now the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University) in Baku, where he completed his studies.

Career in Geology

Ahmedov began his career as a geologist. He played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Azerbaijan branch of the All-Union Geological Institute, serving as its first director. His research significantly contributed to the discovery of oil and gas fields in Western Absheron and Gobustan.

Academic Achievements

In 1947, Ahmedov earned his Candidate of Sciences degree, followed by his Doctor of Geology and Mineralogy in 1956. The same year, he was awarded the title of Professor. His extensive research earned him the recognition of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR, where he became a Corresponding Member in 1962 and a Full Member in 1967.

Scientific Legacy

Ahmedov's monograph, "Mesozoic Deposits of Azerbaijan and Prospects for their Oil and Gas Potential," published in 1974, earned him the prestigious Academician I. M. Gubkin Award. His work focused on exploring the relationship between geological structures and hydrocarbon resources.

Teaching and Administrative Contributions

Alongside his scientific pursuits, Ahmedov dedicated many years to teaching at the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute (later renamed the Azerbaijan Institute of Oil and Chemistry) from 1951-1956 and 1959-1962. He also held various administrative positions in the oil industry, including his tenure as head of geological services in several oil extraction enterprises from 1933-1942 and 1949. His valuable contributions to both academia and the industry left a lasting impact on the field of geology in Azerbaijan.
