Biography of Gaspard Dughet

Gaspard Dughet, born on June 6, 1615, in Rome, was a French painter and one of the first landscape artists in Europe. He was sometimes referred to as Gaspard Poussin, after his famous teacher and relative, Nicolas Poussin. Dughet had a unique individual perception of nature, which he depicted in his works. Later, he was influenced by the clear classical style of Poussin.

Fast and Prolific Painter

Dughet was known for his exceptional speed in painting. He produced large series of landscapes, such as a collection of twenty-five views for the main hall of Palazzo Doria-Pamphilj in Rome. One of his most renowned works is the fresco cycle "The Life of the Prophet Elijah" from the late 1630s, located in the church of San Martino di Monti in Rome.
