Early Life and Education
Dr. Borys Atanov was born in Donetsk, Ukraine, on September 1, 1939. He earned a degree from the Kharkiv Aviation Institute in 1963.
Academic Career
From 1966 to 1999, Atanov worked at Donetsk State University, where he served as head of the Department of General Physics and Physics Didactics. He was also a co-founder of the Donetsk Open University and its subsidiary, the Donetsk Institute of Social Education. He was the rector of the Donetsk Institute of Social Education from 1997 to 2000. In 2000, he became the director of the Donetsk Open University.
Research and Publications
Atanov is a renowned scholar in hydrodynamics and didactics. He has authored six monographs and over 140 publications in hydrodynamics and over 80 in didactics. His research contributions have earned him recognition as an academician of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine.
International Affiliations
Atanov is an active member of several international organizations, including the International Association for Water Jet Technologies, the National Committee of Ukraine for Applied and Theoretical Mechanics, the International Council on Artificial Intelligence in Education, and the International Association for Computerization of Education.
Fishing and the "Atanov Method"
Beyond his academic pursuits, Atanov is an avid angler. He holds the former Soviet Union record for catching a 100-kilogram wels catfish using a kwok (a traditional fishing lure). His innovative fishing method, described in the article "Catching Wels Catfish on a Kwok" published in the journal "Rybolov-sportsmen," is known as the "Atanov Method" among fishermen.
