Biography of Gennady Avramenko
Gennady Avramenko is a Soviet and Ukrainian sports shooter, specializing in rifle shooting. He is a multiple-time world, European, and USSR champion in the sport. He was awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1991) and Ukraine, as well as the title of Honored Coach of Ukraine. In 2009, he was recognized as an Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of Ukraine.
Avramenko graduated from Chernihiv Pedagogical Institute in 1992. He is married to Galina Nazarenko, who is also a former shooter (Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, Honored Coach of Ukraine). Prior to retiring from his sports career, Gennady Viktorovich trained under his wife's guidance. Currently, Galina Nazarenko trains their daughter, Galina Avramenko.
At the age of 37, Avramenko retired from competing and transitioned into coaching. He is currently the head coach of the Ukrainian national shooting team in Running Target shooting discipline.
Achievements
- In 1988, Avramenko won the bronze medal in the Olympic Games in Seoul in the Small-Bore Rifle Running Target event.
- He became the world champion in 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1990.
- Avramenko also claimed the European championship title in 1985, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1992, and 1999.
- He is a medalist in various World Championships and a winner of the World Cup.
