Early Life and Education

Born into a humble family in Nikolaevskaya, Stalinabrd Oblast, on June 13, 1920, Pavel Nikolaevich Zherbin had a childhood steeped in the values of hard work and patriotic spirit. After completing seven years of general education, he enrolled in the Leningrad Mechanical Technical College of Railway Transport in 1935.

Military Service

Zherbin's unwavering dedication to his country led him to join the ranks of the Red Army in 1937. He was assigned to the Stalin Naval Aviation School as a cadet and subsequently commissioned as a junior lieutenant upon graduation. His exceptional skills as a pilot earned him a place in the 13th Squadron of the Baltic Fleet.

Combat Experience

Zherbin's mettle was tested during World War II. As part of a squadron of four I-16 fighters on July 13, 1941, he engaged in a fierce aerial battle near the airfield of Kotly. His bravery and determination caught the attention of his squadron commander, Ivan Feodotovich Sizov, who commended him for his exceptional courage.

On August 11, 1941, Zherbin participated in another aerial confrontation near Kotly and Klopitsi. This time, he sustained wounds but managed to fight off the enemy aircraft. However, his fate remained uncertain as he failed to return from a combat mission on August 21, 1941.

Legacy

Pavel Nikolaevich Zherbin's sacrifice for his country will forever be remembered. His name is forever etched among the fallen heroes in the list of the Brotherhood Burial of Baltic Pilots near the village of Pyatchino, Leningrad Oblast. His bravery and unwavering spirit continue to inspire generations to come.
