Early Life and Military Service

Born on February 12, 1933, in the Soviet Union, the future cosmonaut first served as an aviator in the Soviet Air Force. Following his graduation from aviation school, he fulfilled his military obligations within various units.

Selection as a Cosmonaut

In 1960, the Soviet Air Force's Group No. 1 selected him to join the cosmonaut corps. He subsequently underwent intensive training for space missions aboard the Vostok spacecraft.

Dismissal from the Cosmonaut Corps

On April 17, 1963, a directive from the Commander-in-Chief of the Soviet Air Force dismissed him from the cosmonaut training program due to a disciplinary infraction. While intoxicated, he reportedly failed to comply with the orders of a military patrol.

Return to Military Service

After his departure from the cosmonaut corps, the ex-cosmonaut returned to active duty in an aviation regiment of the Soviet Air Force.

Post-Retirement Life

Upon retiring from military service, the former cosmonaut resided with his family in Bezhensk, a town in the Tver Oblast of Russia.

Death and Legacy

The former cosmonaut passed away on August 20, 1992, leaving behind a legacy of participation in the early space program of the Soviet Union.
