Biography of Jeffrey Bell

Jeffrey Bell, an economist and banker, is the Executive Secretary of the Group of Thirty, a consultative body made up of influential and wealthy bankers from major private and central banks around the world. He was born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom and received his education at the London School of Economics (LSE). After working in Her Majesty's Treasury, he returned to LSE to lecture on monetary economics in 1964.

Economic Advisor and Banker

From 1966 to 1969, Bell served as an economic advisor to the British Embassy in Washington, D.C. He then joined Schroders Bank as an assistant to the chairman, Gordon Richardson, who later became the Governor of the Bank of England. In 1987-1993, Bell served as the Chairman of Guinness Mahon Holdings.

Founder of G30 and Consulting Career

In 1978, Bell founded the influential advisory group G30 after being invited by representatives of the Rockefeller Foundation. He continues to serve as the Executive Secretary of the group. In 1982, he established his own consulting company, "Jeffrey Bell & Company," which advises central banks and governments on financial management. One of his notable clients includes the Central Bank of Venezuela, where he served as a financial consultant for twenty-five years.
