Early Life and Education

George Allen Jeckell was born and raised in Ontario. He pursued teacher education in the Northwest Territories and Yukon.

Teaching Career

Jeckell served as a school teacher in Dawson.
Political and Administrative Career
Commissioner of Yukon

In 1928, Jeckell became an inspector with the Dominion Taxation Office. He rose to prominence during the Great Depression when the Commissioner of Gold and Controller of the Yukon Territory positions were merged. Jeckell subsequently assumed the dual role, governing Yukon for approximately 15 years.

Masonic Involvement

Jeckell was an active member of the Masonic Lodge in Dawson from 1906 onwards, serving as Master of the Lodge from 1919.

Honors and Legacy

Jeckell was awarded the Order of the British Empire. Mount Jeckell in Yukon Territory and Jeckell Street in Whitehorse were named in his honor.
