Early Life and Career
Arthur Brickett was born in Forsbrook, Staffordshire, and began his football career with local teams Burslem Park and Trent Vale. In October 1902, he signed a professional contract with Stoke City.
Stoke City and Sunderland Debut
Brickett made his debut for Stoke but soon moved to Sunderland, where he debuted on January 17, 1903, against Sheffield United. He scored his first goal for the club in the following match against Grimsby Town and quickly became a regular starter.
Premier Goalscorer and Club Captain
Brickett was a prolific goalscorer for Sunderland, particularly during the 1905/06 and 1906/07 seasons, when he became the team's top scorer with 17 and 25 goals respectively. He also served as captain and was known for his excellent passing skills.
England International
Brickett was capped 11 times for England, his debut coming against Scotland in 1905. He scored his only goal for his country against Austria in 1908.
Later Career and Coaching
After leaving Sunderland, Brickett became a coach, leading teams such as South Shields and North Shields. He briefly returned to playing with Port Vale in 1923/24 before retiring permanently.
