Biography of George Ezra

Early Life

George Ezra Barnett was born on June 7, 1993, in Hertford, England, where he grew up. Both of his parents were educators. He attended Bengeo Primary School and later Simon Balle School. In 2011, Ezra moved to Bristol to study at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM).

Musical Influences

Ezra cites legendary rock musician Bob Dylan and folk singer Woody Guthrie as his main influences. His deep bass-baritone voice is infused with a "bluesy feeling." According to the website "When the Gramophone Rings," Ezra's vocal abilities are beyond his years, with a soulful sound that is more reminiscent of an "Alabama shrimp boat captain" than a 21-year-old Bristol resident. His obsession with Bob Dylan's music led him to discover the works of early American folk and blues artists such as Lead Belly, Woody Guthrie, and Howlin' Wolf.
