Biography of George Harvey Presnell
George Harvey Presnell was an American actor and singer. He was born on September 14, 1933, in Modesto, California. Presnell began his career as a professional singer at the age of sixteen. He studied music at the University of Southern California and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in vocal performance. He further honed his skills in Europe and at the West Academy.

Early Career
During the 1950s, Presnell showcased his rich and beautiful baritone voice by performing with various orchestras. In 1957, he made his debut on the stage of the San Francisco Opera in Richard Strauss' one-act opera "Ariadne auf Naxos". In the same year, he also performed several supporting opera roles, including the role of the Jailer in the American premiere of Francis Poulenc's opera "Dialogues des Carmélites".

Broadway Success
In 1960, composer and director Meredith Willson offered Presnell the lead role in the new Broadway musical "The Unsinkable Molly Brown". Willson had heard Presnell's performance during a concert at the Hollywood Bowl and was impressed by his baritone voice and dramatic abilities. Presnell accepted the role of Molly Brown's husband, John "Leadville" Brown, even before the character was fully written. His portrayal of John Brown was so successful that he reprised the role in the 1964 film adaptation of the musical, earning him a Golden Globe Award.
Later Career
Throughout the 1960s, Presnell appeared in several films following his success in "The Unsinkable Molly Brown". However, by the early 1970s, his film career had stalled. From 1970 to 1975, he predominantly performed in musical theaters on Broadway, London's West End, and on tours outside of New York. Some of his notable theatrical roles include Rhett Butler, Sir Lancelot, and Don Quixote in the 1984 production of "Man of La Mancha" at the Darien Dinner Theater. He received praise from critics, including a reviewer from The New York Times.
Television and Later Years
Presnell also made appearances on television, portraying Mr. Parker in "The Pretender", Lou Stazek in "Andy Barker, P.I.", Dr. Sam in "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman", and Arthur Brooks in "Dawson's Creek". As a guest star, he appeared in shows such as "Charmed", "ER", "American Dad!", "The Practice", "Hope & Faith", and "Players".
