Birth and Early Life

Georgiy Viktorovich Movsessyan, Russian composer and People's Artist of Russia, was born on August 2, 1945, in Kharkiv, Ukraine, to a family of actors. As a child, he began playing the accordion and attended a music circle at the Kharkiv House of Teachers.

Musical Education and Military Service

Movsessyan graduated from the Gnessin School in 1964, majoring in the accordion. During his military service, he was a member of an ensemble that also included David Tukhmanov and Vladimir Vinokur.

Early Career and Songwriting Debut

In 1965, he composed his debut song, "Dorogi," with lyrics by B. Vakhnuk and A. Zemlyansky. From 1969, he became an artist at the Mosconcert, serving as a soloist and concertmaster in the instrumental workshop.

Popular Songwriter

Movsessyan gained fame for his songs, including "Beryoza," "Mne dovereva pesnya," "Legendy raskazhut," "Eto govorim my," "Provody lyubvi," "Moi goda - moe bogatstvo," and "Rodnaya zemlya." He collaborated with renowned poets such as Robert Rozhdestvensky, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, Igor Shaferan, and Anatoly Poperochny.

Notable Performances

His songs were performed by acclaimed singers like Iosif Kobzon, Maya Kristalinskaya, Eduard Khil, Lev Leshchenko, Muslim Magomayev, Anne Veski, Vakhtang Kikabidze, and the vocal-instrumental ensemble "Plamia." Some of his songs, such as "Ostantsya, molodost," "Provody lyubvi," and "Eto more," were also well-known in his own vocals.

Recognition and Legacy

In 2001, Movsessyan was awarded the title of People's Artist of Russia. He passed away suddenly on November 7, 2011, in Moscow, due to a heart attack. He was laid to rest at the Troyekurovsky Cemetery in the capital.
