Georgiana Young Biography

Georgiana Belzer, better known as Georgiana Young (Georgiana Belzer or Georgiana Young, September 30, 1923 - November 13, 2007), was an American actress. She was born in Los Angeles, California, as the only child of Gladys Young (Royal) and her second husband, George Belzer; her parents divorced shortly after her birth. Georgiana was the step-sister of actresses Loretta Young, Sally Blane, and Polly Ann Young.

Early Career and Missed Opportunity

Georgiana worked under contract with David O. Selznick for three years; she was even considered for the role of Suellen, Scarlett O'Hara's younger sister, in the iconic film "Gone with the Wind" in 1939. Unfortunately, she lost the role to Evelyn Keyes. The reason for the rejection was simple - even at the age of fourteen, Young was taller than Vivien Leigh and did not fit the role of her younger sister.

Modeling Career and Marriage

After her unsuccessful acting attempt, Georgiana pursued a career as a model. However, her modeling career ended after she married Ricardo Montalban. She met this legendary American actor of Mexican descent through her sister Sally Blane and her husband, the director Norman Foster. Montalban directed one of Foster's Mexican projects, and he happened to meet Georgiana and was instantly smitten by her. Another version of their meeting, described in Loretta Young's official biography "Forever Young" by Joan Wester Anderson, states that Ricardo first saw Georgiana on a magazine cover and then in that very same film. Her beauty against the backdrop of his homeland, Mexico, impressed Montalban so much that he vowed not to marry anyone else. With a little apprehension, he agreed to a blind date with her - and happily discovered that she was just as pleasant in conversation as she was beautiful.

Family Life

After leaving her modeling career behind, Georgiana focused on her family life. She and Montalban had four children - sons Victor and Mark and daughters Laura and Anita. It is known that Laura later became a well-known fashion designer. After her marriage to Ricardo, Georgiana became the stepdaughter-in-law of Norman Foster and Grant Withers; she also had family ties to Ricardo's brother, Carlos Montalban.

Later Years and Passing

After sixty-three years of marriage, Georgiana Young passed away on November 13, 2007 at the age of eighty-three. Ricardo Montalban survived her for a short time, as he passed away on January 14, 2009.
