Born into a family with a rich artistic heritage, Georgi's father, Mikheil Kalatozov, was a celebrated Soviet film director. He completed his formal education in cinematography from the prestigious Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow under the guidance of Boris Volchek in 1953.
Career in Cinematography and Direction
Georgi's career began in 1960 as a cinematographer. He became a director in 1969 and worked at the Georgian Film studio "Georgia Film" for many years. He also collaborated on projects with the renowned "Lenfilm" studio.
Recognition and Legacy
Georgi's talent and contributions were recognized with the prestigious title of People's Artist of the Georgian SSR in 1980. His untimely passing on July 22, 1984, left a void in the Georgian film industry.
