Vadim Sergeyevich Avloshenko: A Life in Film and Drama
Early Life and EducationVadim Sergeyevich Avloshenko (June 3, 1940) was born in Kuibyshev, Russia (now Samara). In 1964, he graduated with honors from the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow, where he studied cinematography under the tutelage of the renowned operator O. Galperin.
Arrival in Odessa and Filmmaking Career
After graduating from VGIK in 1963, Avloshenko relocated to Odessa, Ukraine. There, at the Odessa Film Studio, he embarked on a prolific filmmaking career, capturing the camera for over thirty feature films. He collaborated with renowned directors such as Andrei Tarkovsky, Pyotr Todorovsky, Vilen Novak, Radomir Vasilevsky, Vasily Levin, Vsevolod Shilovsky, and Andrei Rostotsky.
Debut as a Screenwriter
In addition to his contributions as a cinematographer, Avloshenko also made his mark as a screenwriter. The films "Krupny razgovor" (Major Conversation) and "Dve versii odnogo stolknoveniya" (Two Versions of One Collision), written in collaboration with Y. Gavrilov, were adapted from his own scripts.
Literary Accolades and Publications
Avloshenko's talent extended beyond film. He was a respected dramatist, receiving awards in the All-Ukrainian Competition of Playwrights. His short stories and screenplays have been published in prestigious literary journals such as "Aurora," "Kinotsenarii," and the almanac "Deribasovskaya - Rischelievskaya." His writings have also been published in the Odessa newspaper "SLOVO."
