Georgy Kavtaradze - Biography

Georgy Kavtaradze is a Georgian actor and People's Artist of the Georgian SSR. He was born in Tbilisi and began his career in the K. Mardjanishvili Academic Theater at the age of 17. He worked as a stagehand, director, and actor in the theater. In 1967, he graduated from the directing department of the Shota Rustaveli Tbilisi Theater Institute. From 1962, he worked as an actor and director (from 1967) at the Shota Rustaveli Academic Theater, and returned to this theater in 1973. From 1969 to 1972, he was the chief director of the I. Chavchavadze Batumi Theater. Since 1974, he has been a professor at the Acting Department of the Shota Rustaveli Georgian Theater Institute. From 1976 to 1982, he served as the director of the L. Meskhihvili Kutaisi Art Theater. Since 1982, he has been the artistic director and director of the K. Gamsakhurdia Sukhumi Drama Theater. He was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Georgian SSR in 1982 and People's Artist of the Abkhazian SSR in 1983.
