Kedrenos was a Byzantine historian who lived in the late 11th or early 12th century. He is known for his historical work, which is a compilation of earlier historical accounts.
Sources and Scope
Kedrenos' work was heavily reliant on the writings of previous historians, including John Skylitzes, George Syncellus, and Theophanes. He mentioned these sources in the preface of his work, which covered a broad span of history, beginning with the creation of the world and extending through Jewish, Roman, and Byzantine history up to the reign of Isaac Komnenos in 1057.

Kedrenos displayed a consistent dependence on his predecessors, particularly in the portion of his work covering the period from 811 to 1057. In this section, he closely followed Skylitzes' chronicle, essentially retelling it in his own words and making only minor additions.
