Early Life and EducationAnatoliy Krunov was born in Ukraine on [Date of Birth]. He graduated with honors from the Kharkiv Law Institute in 1951.
Political Career
Komsomol and Party WorkKrunov began his political career in 1955 as a secretary and deputy secretary of the Zaporizhzhya regional committee of the Komsomol (Young Communist League). He joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) in 1956. From 1960 onwards, he held various positions in the Zaporizhzhya regional committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine (CPU), including as the head of the propaganda and agitation department and the head of the organizational department.
Central Committee of the CPU
In 1966, Krunov was appointed an assistant to the secretary of the Central Committee of the CPU. He later served as deputy head and head of the organizational department from 1972 to 1985.
Central Committee of the CPSU
In 1985, Krunov moved to the Central Committee of the CPSU, where he became deputy head of the organizational and party work department.
Regional Leadership
From November 1988 to March 1990, Krunov served as the first secretary of the Odessa regional committee of the CPU. He was also elected as a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR for three terms.
Supreme Soviet of the USSR
In 1989, Krunov was elected as a people's deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He served on several committees and was a member of the Constitutional Commission.
Post-Soviet Career
Advisor and PensionAfter the collapse of the Soviet Union, Krunov served as an advisor to the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR. He retired in 1991 and worked as an advisor to the CPU's Central Committee.
Communist Party of Ukraine
Following the ban on the Communist Party in 1991, Krunov participated in efforts to restore its activities. He served as an assistant-consultant to a people's deputy of Ukraine and became a member of the CPU's Central Committee.
Verkhovna Rada
In 1998 and 2002, Krunov was elected as a people's deputy of Ukraine on the CPU's list. He chaired the Verkhovna Rada's Committee on National Security and Defense from 1998 to 2000 and from 2002 to 2006.
Civil Society Activism
Since 2006, Krunov has been the executive secretary of the civil-political organization "Ukrainian Forum." He is also a member of the council of the "New Ukraine" Civil Movement.
Anti-Fascist Advocate
As one of the most respected figures in the CPU, Krunov advocates for the unity of all anti-fascist forces. He is the co-author of the book "Fascism in Ukraine: Threat or Reality?" which proposes the creation of a unified anti-nationalist Resistance Movement.
Personal Life
Krunov is married to Leliana Dmytrivna, a librarian-bibliographer. He has a son, Pavlo, who is a lawyer, and a daughter, Hanna, who is a PhD in foreign philology and an English language teacher.
