Soviet and Russian Historian, Diplomat, and Journalist

Born in Nazi-occupied Paris in Early Life, Pavel Vasilyevich Ptichkin's family returned to the USSR in 1947, settling in Tbilisi. However, they were later exiled to the South Kazakhstan Oblast from 1950 to 1956.

Journalist and Academic Career

After completing high school in Tbilisi, Ptichkin graduated from the Tbilisi State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages. He subsequently worked as a journalist for TASS and the Novosti Press Agency from 1964 to 1970.

Ptichkin defended his Candidate of Historical Sciences dissertation in 1967 at the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University (MSU), focusing on "Foreign Policy Propaganda in the Press of the Fifth Republic (On the Example of Franco-Algerian Relations in 1958-1966)." He served as an associate professor at the Faculty of Journalism at MSU from 1967 to 1992.

Senior Researcher and Diplomat

From 1970 to 1995, Ptichkin worked as a senior researcher in the Department of Sociological Problems of Propaganda at the Institute of Sociological Research of the USSR Academy of Sciences (Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences). In 1978, he successfully defended his Doctor of Historical Sciences dissertation at MSU, analyzing "A Critical Analysis of Forms and Methods of Imperialist Propaganda against the USSR in 1945-1976."

Ptichkin served as First Secretary at the Russian Embassy in Mexico from 1995 to 1998. Subsequently, he became a professor in the Department of Media at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation from 1998 to 2003.

Editor and Archivist

Since 1998, Ptichkin has been the Editor-in-Chief of the portal "Polpred," a political and economic information archive that provides full-text overviews of publications from over 600 media outlets.
