Gerard de Villiers was a French writer best known for his series of spy novels featuring the adventures of Austrian prince and CIA agent, Malko Linge. He was born in Paris to Jacques Adam de Villiers and received his higher education at the Superior School of Journalism in Paris. During his time as a correspondent for the popular publication 'France Soir', de Villiers traveled extensively around the world, a passion for travel that he maintains to this day.

The 'SAS' Series

De Villiers is most famous for his 'SAS' series, which revolves around the aristocratic origins of the main character, Malko Linge, and the author himself. The abbreviation 'SAS' can be deciphered as 'Son Altesse Sérénissime' or 'His Serene Highness', reflecting both the protagonist's and the author's aristocratic ties. Additionally, the title alludes to the special forces unit of the British Royal Air Force. As of 2007, a total of 171 books featuring the invincible super agent have been published, with two adaptations for the screen in 1983 and 1989.
