Biography of Gerard Pipart
Gerard Pipart was born on December 25, 1933 in France. He received his professional education at the School of the Parisian High Fashion Syndicate (École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne).
Career Beginnings
Pipart's career began in 1963 when he started drawing sketches for fashion brands such as Balmain and Jacques Fath. He then went on to work for Marc Bohan and Givenchy. After a few months as a sketch artist, Pipart became the head designer of the fashion house Nina Ricci, replacing Jules-François Crahay.
Design Style
Pipart was known for creating timeless clothing designs. His elegant silhouettes, intricate embroidery that required hours of manual work, and the use of luxurious chiffon and taffeta to create the shape of evening dresses were some of the defining characteristics of his creations. His talent gained him recognition from prominent figures such as Queen Sirikit of Thailand, Queen Sonja of Norway, Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte of Luxembourg, and Marcella Perez de Cuellar, among others.

In 1987, Gerard Pipart was awarded the "De d'Or" (Golden Thimble) for the best collection of the year in Haute Couture. In 1995, he received one of the most prestigious honors, the National Knight's Cross.
