Gevorg Kasparov: Armenian Goalkeeper
Gevorg Kasparov is a prominent Armenian footballer who has earned recognition as a skilled goalkeeper. Throughout his career, he has represented several clubs, including Gandzasar, Mika, and Pjunik.
Early Career
Kasparov's football journey began in his hometown of Artashat, where he developed his abilities with the local club Dvin. At the tender age of 17, he established himself as the club's primary goalkeeper. Despite facing a challenging defensive line, Kasparov conceded only 51 goals in 18 matches, showcasing his exceptional potential.
Zvartnots-AAL
In 2000, Kasparov moved to Zvartnots-AAL, where he played a pivotal role in leading the team to two Armenian Cup finals. He also helped them secure a silver medal in the Armenian Premier League. However, due to financial constraints, the club was forced to withdraw from the league, ending Kasparov's time with them.
Iranian Adventure
Faced with a lack of opportunities in Armenia, Kasparov sought a new chapter in Iran. He joined Tehran-based Ararat, where he spent a season before returning to his home country.
Mika
In 2004, Kasparov signed for Mika, making his debut against Pjunik. He played a significant role in helping the club secure a silver medal in the league.
Pjunik
The following year, Kasparov joined Pjunik, but initially played second fiddle to Cameroonian goalkeeper Apoula Edel. However, after Edel's departure midway through the season, Kasparov became the club's starting goalkeeper. He played a key role in winning two league titles, the Armenian Super Cup, and was named the league's best goalkeeper in 2005.
Return to Iran and Ulysis
Following his success with Pjunik, Kasparov returned to Iran in 2007 and played for a brief period with Kavah. In 2008, he rejoined Ulysis in Armenia, where he spent two full seasons. He helped the club earn a bronze medal in the 2009 league campaign.
Third Spell at Mika
In 2010, Kasparov returned to Mika after receiving an offer from the club. He played a significant role in their Armenian Cup victory, conceding only one goal in the final against Shirak. Despite initial speculation about a possible move to Iran, Kasparov remained with Mika for another year.
Ulysis (Loan)
During the summer of 2012, Kasparov joined Ulysis on loan to bolster their squad for the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds. However, he returned to Mika after failing to make an appearance for Ulysis in the competition.
International Career
Kasparov has been a regular member of the Armenian national football team since 2004. He made his international debut in 2005 against Andorra, helping his team secure a 3-0 victory.
