Early Career

Gianni Ferrio began his professional career in the late 1950s, composing music for films. However, he did not receive many high-profile assignments and primarily focused on scoring and arranging music for spaghetti westerns, which were extremely popular in Italy during the 1960s and 1970s, as well as Italian comedies. One of the most notable works from this period was the song "One Silver Dollar," which served as the main musical theme for the film "Un dollaro bucato" ("Blood for a Silver Dollar"). Although the film, directed by Giorgio Ferroni, did not gain much attention initially, the song became well-known much later. Almost half a century after its release, Quentin Tarantino used Gianni Ferrio's composition in his film "Inglourious Basterds."

Rise to Fame

The peak of Gianni Ferrio's career came with the composition "Parole, parole," which has been translated into multiple languages and continues to be performed by top musicians worldwide. Interestingly, the song is a collaboration between three composers: Gianni Ferrio, Leo Chiosso, and Giancarlo Del Re. However, it is Gianni Ferrio who is credited as the author of this legendary composition. The song was recorded by singer Mina Anna Mazzini, with whom the composer had a close friendship and frequently assisted in album recordings. Their last collaboration was the album "12 (American Song Book)," which was released in 2012.
