Early Life and Career

Giannis Antetokounmpo was born in Athens, Greece, to Nigerian parents and holds dual Greek and Nigerian citizenship. Growing up, he played basketball at youth level for Filathlitikos, a Greek second division team. In December 2012, he signed a four-year contract with Spanish club Zaragoza, but spent the rest of the season with Filathlitikos.

NBA Career

Draft and Milwaukee Bucks

Antetokounmpo declared for the 2013 NBA Draft and was selected 15th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks. He signed a rookie contract with the team on July 30, 2013. In his first NBA season, he emerged as a versatile player, showcasing his skills as both a scorer and a playmaker.

Progression and Accolades

In the 2016-17 season, Antetokounmpo became the first player in NBA history to rank in the top 20 in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. He was named an NBA All-Star for the first time and won the Most Improved Player Award. He also earned All-NBA Second Team and All-NBA Defensive Second Team honors.

Antetokounmpo continued his meteoric rise in the 2017-18 season, becoming the first player to average 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists in the first five games of an NBA season. He was an All-Star for the second consecutive year and made the All-NBA Second Team again.

MVP and Championship Title

In the 2018-19 season, Antetokounmpo cemented his status as one of the league's elite players. He won his first NBA MVP award and led the Bucks to the Eastern Conference Finals. The following season, he led the Bucks to their first NBA championship in 50 years, earning his second MVP award.

International Career

Antetokounmpo has also represented Greece on the international stage. He played for various age groups, including the junior European Championship in 2013 and the FIBA World Cup in 2014. In the 2015 EuroBasket, he was a key player for the Greek team that finished fifth. He also competed in the qualifying tournament for the 2016 Olympics.

Personal Life

Antetokounmpo has two older brothers, Francis and Thanasis, and two younger brothers, Kostas and Alexis. Thanasis is also a professional basketball player and has played alongside Giannis for both Filathlitikos and the Greek national team. His father, Charles, passed away in September 2017.
