Early Life and CareerGil, a Brazilian footballer, was born in Campos dos Goytacazes on June 12, 1987. His football journey began in his hometown with the Rio Branco club. At 17, he transitioned to Americano, initially playing as a defensive midfielder. However, Marcos Paulo, his coach at the time, saw his potential as a defender.
Breakthrough at Atletico Goianiense
In July 2008, Gil joined Atletico Goianiense as a backup player on a short-term contract until the end of the season. His impressive performances soon earned him a regular starting spot, attracting attention from clubs in higher divisions.
Success with Cruzeiro
On August 1, 2009, Gil signed with Cruzeiro. He made significant contributions to the team's Copa Libertadores campaign. In 2010, he was named runner-up for the tournament's Best Player award, which drew interest from European clubs.
Move to Valenciennes
On August 20, 2011, Gil transferred to Valenciennes in France for a fee of €3 million on a three-year contract. He was brought in as a replacement for Milan Bisevac. Gil made his Valenciennes debut against Ajaccio.
