Israel Castro

Early Life and Club Career

Israel Castro, a Mexican former professional footballer, played as a defender for various Mexican clubs. He began his career with UNAM's youth academy and made his debut with the senior team on January 20, 2002, in a 2-2 draw against Guadalajara.

Success with UNAM

Castro played a pivotal role in UNAM's Apertura and Clausura victories in 2004. His exceptional performances earned him the nickname "Asesino de galácticos" (Killer of Galácticos), as he was the only UNAM player to score in the Santiago Bernabeu Cup in 2004.

Club Transitions

In 2011, Castro transferred to Cruz Azul, and in 2013, he joined Guadalajara, where he remained until the end of his career.

International Career

Debut and Copa América

Castro made his international debut for Mexico under coach Hugo Sánchez on February 28, 2007. He represented Mexico at the 2007 Copa América, where Mexico placed third.

CONCACAF Gold Cup Triumph

In 2009, Castro contributed to Mexico's CONCACAF Gold Cup victory, playing a key role in the 5-0 defeat of the United States in the final.

Castro was selected by coach Javier Aguirre to represent Mexico at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
