Biography of Gilberto Valle
IntroductionGilberto Valle is an American police officer who gained notoriety for his intention to sexually assault and eat 100 women. He was arrested for illegally accessing the police database and keeping records of his potential victims, including their personal information such as date of birth, height, weight, and bust size.
The "Kidnap and Cook" Operation
Gilberto Valle, a seasoned officer of the New York Police Department, had a disturbing document on his computer titled "Kidnap and Cook." In October 2012, he was apprehended by FBI agents in one of the most unusual arrests. They discovered a manual that detailed Valle's plan to kidnap, rape, cook, and eat women. He was arrested without bail and denied release.
Electronic Correspondence and Concerned Wife
Valle's arrest was prompted by the discovery of his email correspondence with an accomplice. In these messages, he described his desire to attack and incapacitate his victims using a specific device. He also expressed his intention to cook the women on a slow fire and keep them alive for as long as possible. When asked about the size of his oven, Valle replied, "Big enough to fit one of these girls if I fold her legs."
Valle's wife became aware of his disturbing online conversations and alerted the authorities. The couple has a one-year-old daughter. Valle resided with his wife and child in Forest Hills, Queens, while working in the 26th precinct in Manhattan. His lawyer, Julia L. Gatto, stated that Valle had not committed any crimes and argued that his actions were merely sexual fantasies, insisting there was no reason to believe they would become a reality.
Federal Prosecutor's Evidence
On the other hand, federal prosecutor Hadassa Waxman claimed that Valle had contacted three accomplices to discuss his plans. In one instance, while in uniform, he used a police car to surveil a woman he approached in a "disturbing manner." The evidence against Valle primarily consisted of text messages and electronic correspondence in which he discussed his plans to kidnap, rape, torture, murder, cook, and consume parts of numerous women. Federal investigators found files with information on at least 100 women on his computer. Some of these women were Valle's former classmates, and the FBI interviewed several of them, all of whom confirmed their familiarity with the officer.
A Deceptively Pleasant Exterior
Gilberto Valle's outward demeanor was that of a well-mannered law enforcement officer. In photographs, he is frequently seen smiling, indicating a jovial personality. In one instance, he wrote, "I can find something to laugh about in any situation," and added that, due to his line of work, he knows countless funny stories that could not be made up. However, if the investigation manages to prove that Valle intended to carry out his "sick fantasies," he could face a life sentence.
