Early Life and Education

Gina Raimondo was born into a family of Italian descent as the youngest of three children. She graduated from Harvard University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Through a Rhodes Scholarship, she pursued further studies at Oxford University in England, where she obtained a Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) in Sociology. In 1998, she received a Juris Doctor degree from Yale University, where she met her husband and married in 2001.

Professional Career

Raimondo began her professional journey as a law clerk in a federal court in New York. She later co-founded and served as vice president of a venture capital firm in Williamstown, Massachusetts. In 2010, she ventured into politics, securing the position of Rhode Island State Treasurer, marking her first elected office.

Governor of Rhode Island

In 2014, Raimondo ran for Governor of Rhode Island. On January 6, 2015, she was sworn in as the new governor, becoming the first woman to hold the office. She is the 75th and current Governor of Rhode Island, representing the Democratic Party.
