Early Life and Career

Georgi Meshvidishvili is a Georgian-born wrestler who has competed in both freestyle wrestling and sumo. His wrestling career began in Georgia, where he represented the country in sumo wrestling competitions. He won the European Sumo Championship and became a medalist at international tournaments in various locations.

Move to Azerbaijan

In 2021, Meshvidishvili switched his sporting citizenship to Azerbaijan. He made his official debut for the Azerbaijani national freestyle wrestling team at a qualifying tournament in Croatia. In his first international competition for Azerbaijan, he reached the final but was forced to withdraw due to injury, earning a silver medal.

European Bronze

At the 2023 European Championships in Zagreb, Meshvidishvili qualified for the quarterfinals after defeating an opponent from Germany. However, he lost in the quarterfinals but went on to win the bronze medal in the repechage bracket, defeating his Italian opponent.

Olympic Success

Meshvidishvili's greatest achievement to date came at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. He reached the semifinals and earned a bronze medal, becoming the first Georgian-born wrestler to medal for Azerbaijan in wrestling.

Recognition and Achievements

For his success at the Olympics, Meshvidishvili was awarded the Order of Service to the Homeland III Degree by the President of Azerbaijan. In addition to his Olympic medal, he is also a two-time European medalist and the winner of the 2021 Azerbaijan Open Wrestling Championship.
