Bishop Giorgio Corbellini
Giorgio Corbellini has served as the Titular Bishop of Abula and President of the Pontifical Household since his appointment by Pope Benedict XVI on July 3, 2009. In this role, he manages relations with lay staff working in the Roman Curia.
Early Career and Vatican Appointments
Before his appointment as President of the Pontifical Household, Corbellini served as Vice-General Secretary of the Governorate of Vatican City State under Cardinal Giovanni Lajolo. On May 11, 2010, he became President of the Disciplinary Commission of the Roman Curia.
From January 30 to November 19, 2014, Corbellini served as interim President of the Financial Information Authority of the Holy See.
Ordination and Episcopal Appointment
Corbellini was ordained a priest on July 10, 1971, at the age of 24. He served in Rome until his appointment as Titular Bishop of Abula and President of the Pontifical Household, succeeding Cardinal Francesco Marchisano, who had served in the position until his 80th birthday. Corbellini also succeeded Cardinal Marchisano as President of the Pontifical Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church.
He was consecrated as Titular Bishop of Abula on September 12 by Pope Benedict XVI himself.
Additional Roles
On May 10, 2010, Cardinal Erranz Casado stepped down as President of the Disciplinary Commission of the Roman Curia, and Bishop Giorgio Corbellini was appointed as his successor.
On January 30, 2014, Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Cardinal Attilio Nicora as President of the Financial Information Authority of the Holy See and named Monsignor Giorgio Corbellini as interim President, a position he held until November 19, 2014.
