In 1528, fate dealt Trivulzio a cruel blow. During the siege of Melfi, he fell into the hands of Odet de Foix, Lord of Lautrec. Despite his plea for ransom to the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, Trivulzio found himself abandoned. However, the French king, Francis I, saw an opportunity in this misfortune.
Rise in France
Recognizing Trivulzio's military prowess, Francis I extended his patronage to the captive general. He granted Trivulzio the lands of Romorantin and other territories, effectively binding him to French service. Trivulzio's loyalty and talent were quickly put to the test.
Distinguished Service
In the Provençal campaign of 1530, Trivulzio's strategic brilliance shone through. He played a pivotal role in the French victory, showcasing his military acumen and unwavering determination. His continued service to France culminated in his elevation to the rank of Marshal in 1544, a testament to his exceptional leadership and contributions to the French military.
